The Science Behind Drøn's Fabric

Two natural fibres. One synthetic enemy. Here's what the difference actually means for your body, your wardrobe, and the planet.

Organic Bamboo — The Performance Natural Fibre

Bamboo is the foundation of the Intent Tee. It's a natural fibre derived from bamboo grass — one of the fastest-growing plants on earth, requiring no pesticides and a fraction of the water cotton cultivation needs.

What makes it remarkable for performance wear is its biology. Bamboo contains a naturally occurring antimicrobial agent called bamboo kun, present in the fibre itself — not applied as a surface treatment. It inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria at the fibre level. That's why the Intent Tee goes 10 to 15 wears between washes, including gym sessions.

Bamboo fibres also have a smooth, round cross-section at the microscopic level — no sharp spurs that scratch or irritate skin. Combined with its natural micro-gap structure that allows air to circulate freely, the result is a fabric that feels like second skin and keeps your body temperature regulated whether you're at your desk or mid-workout.

Premium Cotton — The Structure Natural Fibre

Cotton has been used in clothing for thousands of years because it is breathable, comfortable against skin, biodegradable, and structurally reliable. It holds its shape, takes dye consistently, and gets better — not worse — with repeated washing and wear.

In the Intent Tee, premium cotton provides the structural backbone that pure bamboo alone can't deliver. Without it the tee would be too soft and drape-heavy to hold a tailored silhouette through a full day of movement. Cotton adds the body that keeps the chest structured and the waist clean.

In the Intent Cap, cotton twill is the primary material — and it's the right choice. Structured headwear needs a fibre that holds its form, takes embroidery cleanly, and maintains its shape through daily wear and weather. Cotton twill does all three better than any synthetic alternative.

Together — A More Powerful Blend

Bamboo alone is too soft to hold a tailored silhouette. Cotton alone needs washing more frequently. Combined they cover each other's limitations — bamboo for odour resistance and breathability, cotton for structure and durability. The 7% spandex adds the minimum stretch needed for free movement.

This is why the Intent Tee uses both. Not a compromise — a deliberate combination.

Polyester — Why We Rejected It

Polyester is plastic — derived from petroleum. It traps heat, holds odour-causing bacteria inside its fibres permanently, sheds microplastics with every wash, and takes 200 years to break down in landfill. It dominates athletic wear because it's cheap to produce. Not because it performs.

Why We Choose Natural Fibres — For Everything We Make

The Intent Tee uses organic bamboo and premium cotton because they're the right natural fibres for performance essentials.

The Intent Cap uses 100% premium cotton twill because it's the right natural fibre for structured headwear.

As Drøn grows, every product we add will be held to the same principle — the right natural fibre for the right product. Not the cheapest option. Not the most marketable synthetic. The material that performs best without compromising your body or the planet.

We don't use polyester. We don't use nylon. We don't plan to.
